A Little Different "Pic of the Week".......

And now for something completely different................ I am featuring a photo(s) I took of my daughter as my "Project 52" image this week.

First a little back story........ As most of you know, I just got back from visiting my daughter Nichole in Seattle. I realized that this is the first time I went up simply to be with her and share her world.

The first trip was almost exactly eight years ago when we moved her into her dorm for her freshman year at the University of Washington. A lot of tears were shed that week and even now, I get choked up just thinking about.

Subsequent visits usually involved moving furniture or were side trips as I made my way to Bellevue, Washington for the Museum Art Festival I participated in for a few years.

The last time I was in Seattle was a stop on the road trip I took with my husband three years ago while on our way to Victoria BC.

This trip was different. It's been four years since Nichole graduated from college and she is firmly grounded in life as an adult in one of the greatest cities in the world.

Our decision to take a few days on Whidbey Island was based not only on a desire to "get away", but was also a direct result of wanting to escape the madness that is the Capitol Hill Block Party (her neighborhood). Once the party was over, we came back where Nichole gave me a peek into her reality.

I met her friends, her boyfriend and her coworkers. We walked the route she takes to work, grabbed coffee where I met the baristas she chats with each morning, then made our way to her office where I was given the grand tour. We visited her favorite thrift store, the natural foods co-op and ate at many of the restaurants she frequents regularly.

My daughter was kind enough to indulge in my desire to photograph at sunset and took me to quite a few of the tourists spots she usually avoids.

To say it was a joyful week, would be an understatement. I am not only so damn proud of the woman my daughter has become, but I am also so deeply grateful for this woman who has become one of my best friends.

I am sharing a few photos here today, but this one I am declaring as my "Project 52" image. It's not the best photo technically, but I feel it captures so much of who Nichole is, in her city...........

Project 52 - Week 31

Just for fun, here are a few more...........

Double Bluff Beach -  Whidbey

Nichole is smart enough to bring a book along when she knows I will be photographing.....

Amazing breakfast at the Wandering Goose

I will close with this image................. I took this at Gas Works Park (remember my quest for a sunset?). I asked her to run up the hill and strike this pose, but even if it was not spontaneous, I knew in the moment we were celebrating something very special.

PS - Nichole has her own blog where she shares her unique perspective on the world: Live Rhythm
