August Break 2012
It's the last day of August, so next week I go back to my normal blogging schedule.......maybe.
There was something about posting everyday that I liked, but I don't think I can sustain that...(did I just hear a big sigh of relief from all of you that receive my blog posts by email?)
So anyway, today's image is somewhat symbolic (maybe "closing the door on the month"??), but it is also about new beginnings which is what I feel the first day of September represents.
My son moved out to begin college five years ago this week. In the 17 years we have lived in this house we never painted his room. We gave him free reign which meant "glow in the dark" stars on the ceilings, skateboarding stickers on the closet doors and posters attached to the walls with a lifetime supply of tape.
We have house guests coming in a few weeks, so while it's been somewhat of an emotional rollercoaster for me, we made the decision that it was time to take back his room. All the furniture is being replaced and the walls have been freshly painted.
I was struck by the simplicity and the beauty of the morning sun streaming into the empty room yesterday and made this image.
It is with some sadness that I see I no longer have a "kid's room" in my house, but both my children are happily settled in other cities and that gives me great joy.
So as August gives way to a new month and a new season, I am choosing to look forward and embrace the changes that this new season of my life will also bring......and it's all good!
Have a great weekend!
